Cairo - the capital of Egypt and the biggest city in Africa and the Middle East. The city has a population of approx 20 million inhabitants and is located across the banks of the River Nile. Cairo remains the heart of politics, culture and economy for the whole Arab world. Cairo is a fascinating city with lots of historical monuments, local markets, churches, mosques, citadels and the wonderful Egyptian Museum.
You will be collected for your trip from Marsa Alam between 10pm and 11pm. The journey to Cairo will then take approx 9 hours. On the journey, you will be assisted by an English speaking tour guide. The estimated arrival time into Cairo is 9am. We will first visit the Egyptian Museum, which was established in 1902, along with your English speaking tour guide. There are 100 rooms housing 120 thousand items in the museum. These items represent the magnificent civilisation of ancient Egypt. Inside the museum, you can admire the famous room dedicated to the findings from Tutenkhamun’s tomb in Luxor (a golden mask and sarcophagi), the collection of fayum portraits, royal mummies (the room with royal mummies costs extra 150 LE to enter). You will also find pharaohs statues, for example Ramses II, Tutmosis III and their wives, as well as Egyptian gods and goddesses.
Lunch is served as buffet-style in a restaurant. Drinks are available for an extra charge. The next stop on our journey is Giza, where we will see the magnificent pyramids: Cheops, Khafre & Mykerinos and the largest statue of a lion man; the Great Sphinx. You can enter the interior of the pyramid of Mykerinos (cost 85LE), Khafre (85LE) and Cheops (300Le). We will also visit a Perfume Palace and the papyrus institute. The return to Hurghada is scheduled at around 2am.
